Srimad Anantheshwara Temple

Srimad Anantheshwara Temple, located at Manjeshwar, is one of the oldest and most important temples associated with the Gowda Saraswat Brahmin community. The temple’s known history dates back to the 8th century AD, making it an important spiritual and historical landmark in Kasaragod.

The temple is dedicated to Srimad Anantheshwara, a form of Lord Shiva associated with Shesha or Anantha. The temple complex also has important shrines of Lord Narasimha and Lord Subramanya. The Shiva Linga is traditionally regarded as Swayambhoo (self-emerged).

The temple has a rich architectural and cultural heritage. Its sanctum, traditional wooden structures, sacred anthill, and ancient idols reflect the long history of the shrine. The temple’s six-wheeled Brahma Ratha, constructed in 1834, is an important feature of its annual celebrations.

The annual Manjeshwar Shasti / Rathotsava is the major festival of the temple. During the celebration, thousands of devotees gather as the magnificent temple chariot is pulled through the streets. The festival is an important religious and cultural event in northern Kerala.
