Madhur Sree Madanantheshwara Siddhivinayaka Temple

Madhur Sree Madanantheshwara Siddhivinayaka Temple is one of the most famous and important pilgrimage centres in Kasaragod district. The ancient temple is situated beside the Madhuvahini River and is renowned for its distinctive traditional architecture, beautiful wood carvings, and peaceful surroundings.

Although Lord Shiva, worshipped as Madanantheshwara, is the presiding deity, the temple is particularly famous for Lord Maha Ganapathi (Siddhivinayaka). The temple’s architecture features a distinctive multi-tiered, elephant-back-shaped dome known as Gaja Prishtha, along with intricate wooden carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana and other traditional motifs.

The temple has a rich collection of legends and traditions. One well-known legend connects the discovery of the Shiva idol with a woman named Madaru. The temple is also associated with a traditional account of Tipu Sultan’s visit during his invasion of the region.

Important celebrations include Ganesh Chaturthi and Madhur Bedi, while Moodappa Seva, in which the large Ganapathi idol is covered with appam, is one of the temple’s distinctive offerings and traditions.
