Kasargod: With just a few days left for the Onam celebrations in the state, the price of green coconut has started increasing again, which is a slight relief for coconut farmers. Last week, Kerafed was procuring green coconuts at Rs 51 per kg. However, this week, the price has gone up to Rs 59. At the same time, the current price in the general market is Rs 55. While Kerafed increased the price by Rs eight in a week, it increased by five rupees in the general market. Earlier, the price had come down to Rs 35 to Rs 40. Traders say that the prices will increase further in the coming days as Onam approaches. The new market changes will provide huge financial relief to the coconut farmers of the state.

Ramachandran Vadakkini, a farmer, spent his childhood witnessing and experiencing a vibrant agrarian culture with the melody and harvest of Njattupattu. It was that umbilical cord connection with the soil that prompted him to put aside his books of profit and loss and re-cultivate gold in the barren land.
